My 1st Education Fair
From the perspective of a Kindergartener
I couldn’t wait any longer! The Education Fair was tonight! I am about ready to burst! As I always say, “TODAY IS THE BEST DAY EVER!” I am so excited to share with my parents our performances. Mrs. Arvizu says, “It’s unlike anything we’ve ever done before!” I wouldn’t know. It’s my first year here at Metropolitan Junior Academy. We’ve been working tirelessly, practicing for the Education Fair for weeks now and I can’t wait for my parents to see us perform. Not only have we been practicing for the Reader’s Theater, but also for our Gym Kids’ performance where we will be doing cart wheels, tumbling, and even using flags to show off our skills that we have worked so hard to master. We weren’t the only ones in the school preparing for the Education Fair, the older students were working on projects too!
The night finally came, Education Fair at 7 PM on May 4th. I was wearing my favorite dress for the special performance. It was flowy, and pink, with flowers all over it, and made me feel like a princess. The evening began with dinner in the gym. My mom bought me a pastry that the older students were selling to raise money to go on a mission trip. Boy, was it yummy! I was only half way through my pastry when I realized it was show time! We got in our positions and the audience got quiet. I was up first. It felt like that pastry wanted to come out of my tummy and watch the show, too. I began the Reader’s Theater entitled, “The Best Planet Awards,” by sharing about my planet, Mercury, and why it is the best planet ever. My classmates continued sharing about the other planets as I glanced over at my parents. They seemed to be enjoying themselves and began to laugh when I said my funny line. Mrs. Arvizu thinks I am funny, too and laughs at my jokes often.
After our Reader’s Theater, I took a bow and smiled proudly. In between performances, I was able to look around the other classrooms. Let me just say, “I can’t wait to be in third grade!” I know I have a long way to go, but their science experiments were fascinating! Let’s not forget, the informative social studies projects in grades 6-8. The poetry written by the 9th and 10th grade was great too. They were nothing like the poems of Dr. Seuss that I read!
Next, I sang my heart out when the K-6 choir sang a song called, “It’s In My Desk.” This song did NOT apply to me because I keep my desk nice and neat-NOT messy. My teacher says, “My desk is quite pristine, especially for a Kindergartener.” You won’t find a mouse in my desk, let alone all that other yucky stuff. That’s for sure! As the evening went on, the gymnastics team had a performance and they were so cool! I want to be on the gymnastics team when I get to middle school! Oh, and I also want to play in the chimes choir too! I am taking piano lessons now, so I am sure it won’t be too hard for me!
On the way home, my heart was happy because Mommy and Daddy told me how proud they were of my brother and I. They went on and on about how glad they are to be called our parents and how we did the best out of all the children there. I know I may say it a lot, but this truly was, “THE BEST DAY EVER!”
