1st Full Week of School
- Be Kind
- Raise Your Hand for Permission to Speak
- Follow Directions Quickly
Over the course of the week, we have been learning how to behave on the playground and how to show respect to our teachers and friends.
Another routine we are working on mastering is our “Word Sort” activities for Morning Work. Every day the students participate in different hands-on activities with words. This helps students to interact with words daily enhancing their spelling and reading skills.
Also, we have been working on completing the classroom morning routine which begins when students walk through the door. Before school starts students are expected to:
- put snacks in their cubbies
- sharpen 2 pencils
- fill up water bottles
- drink water/ go to the restroom
The morning routine is essential to starting the day off on the right foot. It helps us to be ready for the school day to begin promptly at 8am.
Furthermore, I have been getting to know your child’s strengths and areas needing improvement pertaining to academics. I have assessed all students in spelling. On Monday, I am sending out homework packets with individualize spelling words based on your child’s assessment scores.
I am close to completing reading assessments for each student. This upcoming week I will continue to assess students in all subjects.
This past week we had the opportunity to learn about landforms. Thus far we have learned what landforms are and 2 examples of landforms: mountains and plains. In the upcoming week, we will continue to expand our knowledge about landforms.
Thank you to the parents who came to Back to School Night on Thursday evening. The children present earned a “Kudo!”
For those that came to Back to School Night, you will recall “Kudos” are a form of visual praise for a job well done. Below are pictures of some “Kudo Cards.”
Also attached below are the handouts that were given out at Back to School Night which includes a class schedule. If you were not present, please print and fill out the student information card and return it to me.
Thanks for peeking in! Be on the lookout for more posts to gain “A Peek Inside” our classroom.
